Região de Canarana quer se tornar referência nacional na produção de algodão orgânico

CANARANA – A região do Vale do Araguaia quer se tornar referência nacional na produção de algodão orgânico através da agricultura familiar. Os testes já iniciaram e os resultados tem surpreendido a indústria. O assunto foi discutido no dia 16 de maio, num evento em Canarana-MT, no Sindicato Rural, que reuniu representantes de 14 municípios da região. A iniciativa é encabeçada pela Empaer (Empresa Mato-grossense de Pesquisa, Assistência Técnica e Extensão Rural), em parceria com a Secretaria de Agricultura de Canarana e a Cooperportal (Cooperativa Regional Agropecuária Portal do Xingu), também com sede no Município.

Na safra 2021 já foram produzidos mais de quatro mil kg de algodão orgânico em Canarana, entre um assentamento e um centro de pesquisa. Conforme o extensionista da Empaer, Gildomar Avrella, representantes da empresa Vert Shoes, que fabrica calçados e exporta para a França, se surpreenderam com a qualidade da pluma. “Eles gostaram do produto e fizeram uma proposta comercial, oferecendo 15 reais por kg limpo para o produtor, mais a comissão da cooperativa, que irá beneficiar a produção. E o valor só não será maior, porque nosso algodão ainda não é certificado e será pelos próximos dois anos classificado como de transição”, disse Gil da Empaer.

Conforme o extensionista, é possível produzir três mil kg por hectare, o que torna o algodão uma importante fonte de renda para os agricultores familiares. Além de não utilizar produtos químicos na cultura, a colheita é feita de forma manual. “Se tivermos 100 pequenos agricultores e cada um plantar um hectare, poderemos produzir 300 mil kg de algodão orgânico, que vende tudo. Acreditamos que a região tem condições de se tornar referência na cultura, que hoje está consolidada no Nordeste”, aposta Avrella. A Empaer, juntamente com as secretarias municipais do Araguaia darão apoio técnico e a Cooperportal irá beneficiar o algodão através de uma máquina que está sendo adquirida.

Gergelim

Além do algodão, foi debatido no evento a produção de gergelim orgânico, que já vem sendo desenvolvido em Canarana e Gaúcha do Norte. Na safra 20221 foram colhidos 22 mil kg de gergelim, que serão comercializados como sementes de plantio, a um ganho de seis reais por kg ao produtor, sendo que os agricultores ganharam a semente e o adubo. O gergelim orgânico é vendido para o Japão e também está se tornando uma excelente fonte de renda para a agricultura familiar.
